This summer I have been doing the challenge I set before New Life Church to read the Gospels. I am reading and re-reading the Gospel of John. I’m on my third time through it.

Starting this Sunday, June 5, I will preach a summer series on getting to know Jesus in the Gospels. Last summer we had a “Summer in the Psalms” series and we were challenged to read through the Book of Psalms during the summer.

When you hear the phrase â€œThe Word of Godâ€, what comes to mind? My guess is that most people think of the Bible because we so often refer to it as â€œThe Word of God.â€ And it is. But what about the famous opening fourteen verses of Johnâ€™s Gospel that says the â€œWord was with God, and the Word was God,â€ and that â€œThe Word became flesh and lived among usâ€? The Bible didnâ€™t become flesh, right?

The title comes from Mark 2:2. It is the well-known healing miracle of Jesus when some friends of a paralyzed man let the man down through the roof because the house was too crowded for them to walk into it.
